A company in South Florida, Oasis Outsourcing, is used by a lot of companies to handle their employees and their benefits. This company supposedly has an exception to where they can legally get away with paying their outsourced employees half of their hourly pay when they’ve worked over 40 hours. How can they do this legally? What exceptions are there to this rule which allows them to get away with this?

I am paid the same way. I am non-exempt admin in personnel. I get a salary every month. Any time I work over 40 hours I get half time overtime. It is legal.

I am looking for a portable usb powered scanner to scan pics. Does anyone have any suggestion for any models?

I don’t know what you mean by “portable”. Most scanners (and scanner-printer combos) are small enough to tuck under your arm and take with you, though they’re bigger than notebook computers. (My office does have an HP scanjet 4600, which is a small flat thing the size of a large laptop, but it’s a few years old and I don’t see anything like it on the HP website.)

If you mean by “portable” you can plug it into whatever computer is available and scan, you’re kind of out of luck. The USB connection requires a pretty involved driver installation, which means something like 20 minutes (depending on the speed of the computer) to install on a new computer.

Finally, I don’t know of any scanners which are “USB powered”. The power available through a USB port isn’t enough to run a device like a scanner — you’ll still have to plug the scanner into the wall. I don’t know of any battery-powered scanners, though there might be some.

You are the Network Manager at a major finance company. The company operates from a
single Head Office and employs two classes of sales staff who work from their homes.
Recently, the Management has set aside a budget to equip its sales force with a mixture of
portable notebook PCs and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) so that staff can provide
appropriate advice to customers and also create suitable quotes for the company’s products.
As part of this development the sales staff will need to communicate electronically with head

Senior Sales Staff
These members of the sales force will be supplied with a suitable Notebook PC and portable
printer so that they can deliver the company’s message via a PowerPoint presentation,
compile and print suitable quotations for insurance products, check a central database for
available products, perform queries on existing customer records, send and receive e-mail,

These staff members will be supplied with a suitable PDA which will allow them to perform

How to connect web camera to a computer?

Please tell me if their any need of other components (eg.. A capture card or T.V card with capture) to connect web camera to a PC? or can it directly connect to a PC?

it is probally a usb web cam.. well i haven’t heard of any other type of web-cam out there. Just plug it in and either windows should detect and install the driver itself or it will ask you for a CD. By then you put in the CD that the web-cam came with and it will detect the driver software on the CD and install it.

The Writers Bureau Writing Course Helped Get Me Published

My assigned tutor on the Writers Bureau Home Study Course recommended I focus my writing on two areas of which I have experience. I am almost half-way through the course and have been published three times. Two of those pieces in print were on subjects in the area that my tutor recommended I should centre on.

I enrolled on the Writers Bureau Creative Writing Course a few years ago and I have never regretted my decision. The home study course covers many different aspects of creative writing, from how to break into print with readers’ letters and fillers (mini articles), through to planning and writing a novel. You are taught how to research a publication, then to correctly structure and present an article to its editorial team. Advice on how to sell your writing is provided and there’s guidance on legal issues like copyright.

The course is made up of 18 written assignments which are drawn from 26 study modules. Students are assigned a tutor who will mark submitted work and return it with suggestions, comments and any necessary amendments. Throughout the course, the tutors are constructive in their criticism, which in the early stages is mild so as not to damage the aspiring writer’s confidence.  However as you progress, the tutors will tell it like it is – well, mine does!

If your assignment is deemed suitable for your target market and is of a publishable standard, the tutor will recommend that you submit it to your chosen publication.

One of my recent submissions was made up of three different pieces of work. My tutor disliked the first one and pointed out where it could have been improved. She complemented the construction of the second piece, but felt its subject may have been slightly out of date with current affairs. The final article was the best of the three and the recommendation was that I submit it for publication as soon as possible. I followed her advice and my work was published as a double page spread in an industry leading monthly journal.

Students of the Writers Bureau Creative Writing Course are urged to write every day – even if only for a few minutes. Skills improve with practice, therefore to get the full benefit of the course; students are encouraged to be consistent in submitting their assignments. This is, possibly, why the Writers Bureau has implemented a time limit of four years to finish the course.

There have been times when I was unable to write as often as I would’ve liked and this provided for a feeling of disappointment. I even stopped the course completely when the demands of a career change with my ‘day job’ took over. I had to push myself to return to the course, but my love of writing was my motivator.

Has the Writers Bureau Home Study Course assisted me and would I recommend it to others? The answer is a definite yes, but only if you’re prepared to work at it. I know of people that enrolled on the course and never even got started. I have followed my tutor’s advice and it seems to be working for me – although a bit slowly, but I suppose that’s how it is when starting out. A few days ago, an editor called me to talk about an article that I recently submitted; hopefully this will be my fourth published piece.

I work out of our apartment in Manhattan “Telecommuting”. Do I need to pay NYC city and state taxes or can I continue to pay Goegia taxes because I am in a home office in New York and my company is based in Atlanta?

Since you now live and work in NYC, you have to pay NY and NYC income taxes. You are no longer subject to GA taxes. For the year that you move you will file part year returns for GA and NY listing only the income earned in the respective states. You will also file a part year return for NYC for the period of time you were a resident of NYC.

Where your employer is based is of no consequences.

Sending Mailers is the best way. It doesn’t have to be post cards be creative when send out mailers it will get you noticed even if it is in a colourful folder. That’s how you get noticed.

There are directory’s to advertise your work like the directory of illustration, but they cost quite a bit of money to put in a page and there are hundreds of illustrators in those books so chances aren’t great that they’ll get you work.

Websites like Portfolios.com to advertise your work however I don’t believe a lot of A.D.’s or Editors will be spending time perusing websites for illustrators this way but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Call for entries. Applied Arts Magazine, Spectrum and CAPIC all have call for entry contest there are plenty of others as well. For a fee you enter into these contests if you win or even get honourable mention chances are you can get some work from it.

Word of mouth and network is invaluable, also you can look for an Artist Rep who will get you the work.

All of these methods are difficult and it takes time, patience and a some luck to get the work.
