I became aware of SQL through my husband who is in the IT industry. I’ve found database developer positions that permit telecommuting. Do you know of any other entry-level IT job titles that often include an option to work from home?

The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" – well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama’s open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend’s. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama’s truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama’s paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November.3/17/2008 9:05:12 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote:amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008LISANROY wrote:COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote:well this is "midly amusing". It is a thinly veiled attempt to incite debate over issues, and non-issues, which may be unrelated to the national campaign. While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." At least that is what a young president Bush promised the american public. Once a new president is elected, a series of "signing agreements" can be implemented to remove my umbrages.3/17/2008 8:54:47 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LL22102 wrote:Man…. Dr. Joseph Geronimo, Jr.) is a prolific pro se litigant who, since at least the early 1990s, has filed numerous lawsuits throughout the United States and its territories under the names Roy and Joseph Geronimo, Jr., as well as under the names of entities that he is affiliated with, including International Siva Consciousness & World Religions, Reforms International, Handicap Interests International, and Jungle Democracy.[1] Roy’s lawsuits are often brought against multiple defendants, and feature long, unconventional complaints. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4].Roy’s lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God’s role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint:Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court’s dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]Most, if not all, of Roy’s complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]Despite Roy’s lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". Child Care Linked To Assertive, Noncompliant, and Aggressive Behaviors
Vast Majority of Children Within Normal Range

The more time children spent in child care from birth to age four-and-a-half, the more adults tended to rate them, both at age four-and-a-half and at kindergarten, as less likely to get along with others, as more assertive, as disobedient, and as aggressive, according to a study appearing in the July/August issue of Child Development.

However, the researchers cautioned that for the vast majority of children, the levels of the behaviors reported were well within the normal range.

In fact, a mother’s sensitivity to her child was a better indicator of reported problem behaviors than was time in child care, with more sensitive mothering being linked to less problem behaviors. Higher maternal education and family income also predicted lower levels of children’s problem behaviors..

The findings are from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development.

"It’s important to put these findings in perspective," said Duane Alexander, M.D., Director of the NICHD. "The amount of time in child care is one of several family and child care factors linked to children’s behaviors, both positive and negative."

The NICHD launched the study of early child care in 1991. The 27 researchers conducting the study have been following the development of more than 1000 children from across the United States. The children were enrolled in the study at birth and come from an ethnically and economically diverse sample of families. In addition to focusing on time in child care, the current article focused on several other aspects of the child care experience: the quality of the child care arrangement, the proportion of time that the child was in a child care center, the proportion of time that the child was cared for in a group setting, and the number of times that the mother reported that the child started a new child care arrangement.

In the current article, the researchers describe how child care experiences in the first four-and-a-half years of the children’s lives relate to children’s social competence and behavior problems, when the children were four-and-a-half years old, and later, when they reached kindergarten.

The study measured children’s social behavior by having mothers, child care providers and teachers complete standardized ratings of children’s behavior problems and social competence-their ability to get along with children and adults and their ability to follow social rules. Information about the number of hours the children were in child care was obtained from the mothers every 3-4 months.

The link between time in child care and problem behavior was greater than the link between infant temperament and problem behavior or maternal depression and problem behavior. This link between time in child care and problem behavior was also greater for children in center-based care than for children in other types of care.

The study authors noted that, of the children who displayed problem behaviors, the majority were well within the normal range. A small proportion of children showed levels of problem behavior that should be monitored to see if they developed into more serious problems. The proportion of children showing these higher levels of problem behavior is commensurate with the proportion of children in the U.S. population as a whole who also display these problems.

The link between time in child care and problem behavior occurred across all family backgrounds and all types and quality of care. The authors added that the time in child care during infancy did not appear to have a greater bearing on the children’s behavior than did the time they spent in care after infancy. The researchers also found evidence that children who experienced better quality child care-in which caregivers provided intellectual stimulation and were warm, positive, and sensitive to child behavior-had fewer child caregiver/teacher-reported problem behaviors and conflict than did children who experienced lower quality care. The researchers noted, however, that high quality child care did not eliminate the link between hours in care and behavior problems.

The researchers could find no threshold of child-care hours above which problem behaviors were especially likely to emerge.

To illustrate the reported findings that were based on the information from the group as a whole, the researchers classified the children into four groups, based on the amount of time they spent in child care:

16 percent of children were in child care an average of 0-9 hours a week
38 percent for 10-29 hours
36 percent for 30-45 hours
10 percent for more than 45 hours a week.
In each of these groups, a minority of the children had a high score on behavior problems. However, the percent of children with high scores increased with the increase in the number of hours children spent in child care.

Children were rated by mothers and teachers on items such as: child demands a lot of attention; argues a lot; bragging and boasting; cruelty, bullying or meanness to others; destroys things belonging to others; disobedient at home; disobedient at school; gets into many fights; lying or cheating; screams a lot.

One of the important findings of this study is that the strongest predictor of how well a child behaves was a feature of maternal parenting that the researchers described as sensitivity–how attuned a mother is to a child’s wants and needs. The behaviors of the sensitive mother are child centered; the sensitive mother is aware of the child’s needs, moods, interests, and capabilities. She allows this awareness to guide her interactions with her child. Children of more sensitive mothers were more competent socially, less likely to engage in disruptive behavior, and less likely to be involved in conflicts with their caregivers and teachers.

Similarly, children whose parents had higher incomes and who were more highly educated also were more socially competent and less likely to engage in problem behaviors.

The study authors noted that their study was not designed to prove a cause and effect relationship. That is, the study cannot prove whether spending more time in child care causes children to have more problem behaviors. The behavior problems the researchers documented might be due to some other characteristic of the children or of their environment. Accompanying editorials in the July/August issue of Child Development offer possible explanations.

Findings previously reported from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development showed that more time in care predicted more problem behavior among two-year olds, but not among three-year olds; less sensitive maternal behavior and less harmonious mother-child interaction when children were 6-36 months of age; as well as higher rates of insecure attachment to the mother if the mother’s parenting was relatively insensitive.

Preliminary findings pertaining to the research questions posed and answered by the current article were presented at the meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development in April of 2001. In the future, the researchers plan to focus on the relation between hours spent in child care and children’s behavior during the school years.

I am researching telecommuting jobs and came across this company at premiumretail.com I have spoken with a rep there twice but am a little leary signing up with them especially cause they’re not local. How would I go about checking to see if it is a legitimate business?
I found this assignment through a Yahoo group called MomsMysteryShoppers and haven’t been asked to pay any fees yet. I also looked them up on BBB and they are NOT a member.

This is to apply for a second job, part time, where the entire hiring process is conducted online and via telephone, (the work involves telecommuting). The cover letter is giving me the most trouble, in most cases I don’t even know the name of the person doing the hiring until they contact me in response to my resume, who do I address it to? What can I do to make my personality evident, to make it original, and yet still be professional?

It would be online freelance work. Trying to make sure I know as much as possible before talking to companies so I don’t work out the wrong arrangement, as far as contract worker or employee.
It is an actual Canadian company and I would be working remotely from my home in the US. I know that Canadian taxes are higher and so didn’t know if I would have to pay some kind of double hit, or just pay my US taxes on this earned income.
Based on Tax Lady (thanks!) then if Canadian money is "worth more" than US, but US taxes are less than Canadian, maybe I’ll be coming out better than working for a US company? The rates are much higher up there for my work than in US, also.

And please don’t say that not all jobs can be telecommuted .. we all know that! But more jobs can be than are today.

It looks to me that supporting telecommuting is a Real way of supporting stay at home moms and dads.

I mean for real it would be more free choice for both men and women. And career and family would not be so much an either/or thing.

I think this is much better than the corporate hell rat race that so many people have to live in and be stressed out by.

And much better than some lame trying to turn back the clock to the bad old days and pretend that economic reality and woman’s choices are not real and important.

Hey this is the 21st century and we have the Net.

And Yes I do know that most corporations and governments are not high on doing this even if they say they are. That is something we can try to change. Workers who are more happy are better workers. It I was in business I would want that.

So how can we help make this happen more?
thanx Rio :) Actually I think the biggest issue is attitude..

Friends,

I am starting telecommute job from next week. I would have to travel to company office once every quarter for about a week.

Should I ask for expense reimbursement? If yes which expenses? E.g. Transportation, loading, meals etc…

Thanks,

Hi there. I have always dreamed of working at home. I have been on many sites, but found that through "Good Morning" America show web site, there are a few good ones like Telereach, Intrep, and Alpine Acess to name a few.

Problem is, some of these sites are not so great, and their submission forms for application are not working well (i.e. they don’t seem to go through). Either that or it seems that some of them may not have their stuff together yet (i.e. they’re not well organized).

So, anyone out there with experience working at home? Can you tell me of an excellent, legitimate, "employee status"?

I DO NOT WANT a 1099/independent contractor/home-based business job! But I DO WANT a REAL work-at-home job where you get a W2 and they send you a paycheck, etc…). A nice, regular, steady job where the company really has it’s stuff together, and I can make steady income!

Thanks so much! Please, experienced people answer this question only!

My coworker takes FOREVER to respond to emails when she telecommutes. At work, she tends to be much quicker. Should I say something to her? It makes me wonder if she is telecommuting or tele-SLEEPING from home! Seriously!

I was working for a company that employs people from home to do customer service, telecommuting. When I finished with one of my calls, i placed the system’s answering service on Personal time so that no more calls would come in and I could go and check out what was going on during that moment. I began to curse but did not know that the system did not release the last call although the customer was not on the phone, but randomly, there are times when certain team managers listen to the employee’s calls to monitor them. It just so happens that on that particular call I was being monitored, but I thought the system released the call, which essentially is the system’s malfunction because it is supposed to release after each call. Later on, they notified my team manager, she emailed me about what happened and i replied by apologizing and explaining the situation. Then she sent instant messages to everyone letting them know that when you are on Personal Time, to ensure that the call has released and place the phone on mute because it might still be recording. She later on that day also emailed me later on that day a statement that she had copied and pasted to me via email stating where they have written under the following heading:[B][U]Egregious Call Berhavior."Swearing or obscenities before, during, or after call: Immediate Termination." and later on that day I got a call from HR that they were going to release me because of the incident.

I was not introduced to this notice/policy until after the fact, and later on when i fully read it, it is a bit confusing and vague

The information i am trying to get is if I have a case that I can take to a lawyer to get my job back and of course get my lost wages, because other than that, I was excellent. They use a scoring system in which you must maintain a 97% or above and I always achieved 100%.

Was I terminated unjustifiably? Especially since this was brought to my attention after the fact and the system did not release the call as it is supposed to, or do they have the jurisdiction over me regardless of the facts, especially since no obvious harm was done to any clients nor was it a confrontation with any other employee?

Thanks.

I am currently in my last year of high school, I have been writing applets and software (in the form of .jar) for several years now. Recently I’ve written an online judge, server and client. I’m wondering, with my abilities, is there a way for me to get some job, maybe just freelancing, on the internet? I’m trying to finance for university.

Class envy is rampant on this site. I always see cries that we should tax the rich more so they can "pay their fair share" and that the Bush tax cuts were for the rich. How about some real actual numbers to back your claims?

Remember, Bush tax cuts were in 01 & 03. The latest numbers are usually about two years old. The most recent data to be released summarizes tax collections for the years 1986 through 2005 and was posted to the IRS web site on October 4, 2007.
These numbers represent actual collections, not assumptions or estimates. If nothing else, these numbers shatter the popular illusion that there are so many loopholes in the tax code, for the rich, that the rich don’t pay their share of the tax load. In fact, in 2005, the top-earning 1% of taxpayers earned 21.20% of the income and paid 39.38% of the tax collected or almost double their share, based upon income earned.

How much more should we take from the rich?
Mr. Blubby… What the heck are you talking about? Corporate tax vs. income tax are two different things. Income is based on wha that individual BRINGS HOME. NOt the value of the corporation. When there are breaks for the corporations it allows them to expand and hire more people. If they choose to bring it home they are taxed nearly 40%. Please actually READ the article. Sarah should as well.
vlyplyr…. couldn’t agree more… why can’t libs understand simple economics?

I am beginning to start freelancing as a Computer Graphics Artist (Animation, 3D Modeling). I wanted to know if there were any reference material such as books, websites, and etc. that has some information on how to get started? I must emphasize I require information that is concise and doesn’t speak in broad generalizations.

How to create invoices/contracts?

How to advertise and market services?

Since many companies I would be working with are long distance what are the methods of payment?

Currently I have my portfolio online. Also capable of placing artwork on CD and VHS cassette if needed. In addition to applying for employment at some places, I have registered and/or posted my resume on many job sites. I am looking to get started as soon as possible.

I am not looking to "Get Rich Quick". I am qualified, experienced and a reliable employee but have not been able to find ANY legit work from home jobs. I suffer from Panic Disorder and am not able to drive to work any longer and rather than living off of the government I would like to find a legitimate job that would allow me to telecommute. I refuse to pay a fee to work for someone. They are supposed to pay me! If anyone can give me a lead it would be greatly appreciated! :-)
