Telecommuting Jobs Archives

I am looking for a job in california, telecommuting from Washington. If I get one, do I have to register as a sex offender in california, or only in washington?
It’s very unfortunate that we live in a world full of assumptions. Nevertheless, because I actually want a helpful answers, I will explain a bit, which might stop the onslaught of comments against me.
When I was 13, I hosted a mIRC File Server (something like "bearshare" or "limewire" of sorts) basically, it allowed people to upload and download stuff, using my computer as a "hub" – This was unmoderated by me, but was my property, and thus I suffered the consequences when someone uploaded child pornography on it. I am 24 now, am married and have a son of my own.

Now please, stop commenting if you have nothing helpful to say.

I recently got a 30 day free trial of MagicJack service & 2 MJ devices (but I’ll probably order more!)

I’m trying to lower the costs of land-line & cell phone service but still keep it for basic service & emergencies.

I’m in the process of applying for "telecommuting" call-center jobs, but as their systems don’t work with cell phones or VoIP, (which MagicJack technically is) & as MJ is not compatible with alarm systems, satellite etc.,& MJ recommends an emergency backup for 911, I’ll still need to keep the land-line phone.

But all the landline plans are minimum – monthly, as they all include features like call waiting, caller ID, etc. which the jobs I need it for, don’t even allow.

As I’ll be using MJ for all non-work calls, I just need the CHEAPEST basic service with a flat rate unlimited local & long-distance calls (for work). No frills or fancies.

I’m in metro-Detroit. Anyone know the CHEAPEST land-line plans for or under – just for work & emergencies??

What can we do to combat this? Why are we driving 40-90 minutes each way for the job. is it cause we cant afford to live in the communities that have the jobs? many even most homes are wired for broadband now. are we finally ready as a society to fight for telecommuting as more standard job options? First they started putting jobs far out in suburbs, then brought them back to city but bby then the home prices were out of reach to many families. i dont want to live in podunk, usa just to be near a decent job. and i dont want to pay 00 a month rent to live in the city either. what gives?

I live and work in the US. Beside my day job, I work on a small contract (self-employed) for someone in Canada (telecommuting) and made about CAD 3000 for the whole year 2007. Do I need to file Canadian taxes for that?

Thank you.

There are a large number of telecommuting positions here in USA. I was thinking of getting a job telecommuting, something very basic, then outsource the tasks of the job to someone, most likely in India. I currently have a job and simply could do this in addition. I could take 30 mins a day in relaying tasks to my person in India and sending the work back to the employer.

If I get fired, no big deal, the outsource would be a hourly pay and I still have my real job that I work hard at.

Would this work? what issues might i get into?
I would be using websites such as Elance, hireanindian, etc. All of these people are usually very good at English and I have outsourced project with these sites in the past with ease. no need to go to india

What is the MAXIMUM number of days per year that a Canadian citizen can stay in the US without having to get a visa, or being classified as a "permanent resident", or a US "immigrant"??

If a Canadian citizen has homes, family & friends on both sides of the border, a 100% "telecommuting" job that can be done from ANYWHERE in the world, and wants to divide their time between Canada, the United States, and travel to other countries, what is the MAXIMUM number of allowed days that they can stay in the United States WITHOUT having to get a visa, green card, or be categorized as a "legal alien immigrant" or "permanent resident"??

I.E., pay by the job, versus by the hour? I am a small business owner and I would benefit more from paying a commissioned salary versus paying by the hour. So, no work no pay. This will basically be a telecommuting job. Also, can regular deductions be made just as they are done when the employee is paid by the hour? Please provide as much info as possible. Thanks!
OK, in case I did not make myself clear in my initial question, I plan on paying an employee on commission, this means that if he does *NOT* work, he does *NOT* get paid, he will be working from home, will be on call, any calls I get for work he can do, I pass on to him. How is that "stiffing" him? Furthermore, he’s ok with a commission. He would actually get paid *less* if he was paid by the hour.

I have surfed basically every WAH forum there is out there, free ones and paid ones etc. I have found a few jobs as IC’s but not an employee. I realize that certain jobs are more abundant, like web design and etc, but I still have a impressive resume that should easily get a job being a virtual assistant, doing data entry, speardsheets, customer service, software tech support, live chat and moderators and human resources. My problem is the few jobs that come up are usually already filled b/c others check the forums religiously to apply, I do the same, but I have trouble either way. Anyways, I love for the top answerer on this topic also to give me his/her input. I would love a work at home job that allows a satellite connection, or is non-speaking and not adult chat, pays hourly and preferably not commision, and where I would be an employee and not an IC. Please do not respond with MLM’s surveys, ameriplan, home based businesses, scams, spams or the liking. Thanks Guys for serious responses.

I just lost my job and its almost time for rent and I cannot find anything out there! I need something to make money asap. I know that I can use my computer to make money but Im not really sure how. I have done a lot of research looking up different jobs online but all the telecommuting jobs take some time for you to get a call back. I would be very interested in direct sales but then again there is always that week waiting period for you materials, then a week in training, ect… What about those data entry sites? Any of those work? Im really not into paying any money up front, Ive tried that and never got any more replies. Ive also tried surveys but I dont have the money to invest in all of those free trials. Does anyone have any good ideas for online work such as data entry, surveys that dont ask for money but maybe just pay you a direct check, what about that project payday site… is that real? Im looking for maybe at least 100 a week realistically starting off, so really serious
Serious answers only please i really need some good advice and no im not looking to get rich quick
And I have a baby so I really need the income and quick or im not going to have anywhere to live.

Hello. I am a senior in college right now, and next year I will be moving to New York City with a full-time job in marketing. While my salary next year will be enough to cover my rent and monthly student loan payments (which are substantial), I will not be making enough to live, eat, etc without counting every penny. I will also not have any money leftover to put into savings, which worries me a lot.

Since my job next year will be a strictly 9-5pm job, Mondays thru Fridays only, I was thinking that I could take on part-time or maybe telecommuting jobs on the side that could make me some extra money. Could someone let me know what kinds of opportunities are out there, especially in New York City, to make ideally an extra ,000 per year (at least)?

I welcome all advice, and thanks so much in advance!

I live in a small town with a limited job market.
After getting my Master’s degree in Computer Science, I have been working in software engineering industry as a technical writer (clearly not my dream job) for two years.

Last year I left my job for the opportunity to study abroad: it was one-year non-degree exchange program. I had a right to participate in it because I was registered as a PhD student in my home university.

So I’ve finished that program and returned home. Now I’m not sure what to do:

1. Finish my PhD in my home university. It seems too complicated with my current adviser (and research topic). And it’s impossible to find a postdoc in my hometown.

2. Apply for a PhD in a more recognized university / in a big city. I am actually trying to do that. The situation is that I was already enrolled as a PhD student: is it a complication?

3. Find a job as a programmer (it looks more like a dream job for me). I can only apply for junior positions. So it may be ridiculous to work as a junior programmer in my age (thinking of my classmates who already have several years of experience and would probably work at the same company).

4. Find a telecommuting job / freelance online. For that type of jobs, I would need experience, too.

5. I can’t move into another town without having a guaranteed job or scholarship.

What would you recommend?
I don’t really need links to ‘work at home’ stuff. My goal is to become an experienced professional, and I’m not sure how to achieve it online.

I need a reasonable job. I’m willing to lower my salary expectations but not from ,000 a year to .50 an hour. – would be great considering the circumstances. This economy has destroyed me like many others. I live in Tampa but am temporarily visiting relatives in New York City until I can figure out what to do. I voluntarily gave up my car after financial collapse. 11 years of -perfect- consumer credit is now completely destroyed.. i have 40 college credits, maintain several Microsoft and CompTIA computer certifications, have management and corporate security experience along with public sector experience (working under contract to the Federal Emergency Management Agency during disasters), general administrative experience and hospitality servicing experience at high profile and exclusive resorts.

I can live anywhere and move anywhere providing there is work. I’ve looked into everything using indeed.com for almost two years. This includes "live anywhere" jobs, telecommuting jobs, jobs that require extensive travel, international work, work on islands like Puerto Rico, USVI, etc. I can not find anything. I have several applications pending with a major airline but it doesn’t look good. I need guidance and a job fast. In Florida, you can find QUICK income in the time of need by getting a rent a cop security job that pays .00 an hour which is accomplished by simply getting a D class license from the state after completing required educational hours. And you’re virtually guaranteed work once you have it. In New York, since the expectations are much higher, meeting a security licensing requirement means absolutely nothing and even if you get selected doesn’t pay more than – an hour. Higher taxation, higher transportation costs (with public transit use every day) and the same pay. Amazing.

Maybe there’s a METRO AREA that is doing ok in this country with public transit I can turn to? Or a US territory or island that has a lucrative economy still I can become a part of? ULTIMATELY, I am trying to work on an island somewhere, preferably tropical but this may not be the time since I’m limited on funds unless I can secure work ahead of time. Any suggestions? Please?

PS – If I cant find anything, I’m moving to an island and laying on the beach (see my other posts). I’ll rot and decay at which point I could careless about anything.

I just landed a great new job with a growing corporation. This is a big career move for me and I’m pretty excited. Unfortunately, my s.o. is disabled and needs to be cared for during the day for at least three hours a day. It is killing me to be away at work for so long knowing that he is home alone and needs help. I could completely do my job from my house, even if it was for 12 hours a week. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but options are limited financially. My boss and I have already arranged for me to have Fridays off and work 4 10’s mon-thurs. But now I feel like I am missing a lot that takes place during the week since I only work 4 days. Would it be out of line for me to talk to my boss about the possibility of telecommuting? I’ve only been there for 3 weeks, but things are going great so far.

I have a tendency to work better alone than with others and i want to explore a new computer oriented career. are there jobs that would allow me to make a decent yearly salary telecommuting or working from home on a pc. i dont mean taking online surveys! i mean working for a legitimate company with a salary and benefits working in my home pc. the reason i ask is because i am a good worker and very talented and intelligent but have a hard time in the workplace and tend to get stressed out unless i am just left alone to work with myself. i would love to work on a computer doing web design graphic design but am not closed off to other ideas. i would further my education to do this (only have 2 year music degree), and i am a pretty fast typist ( forgive spelling here) but this is also cause i want to start building another business on my owm slowly and need solid income.but being sort of gorophobic is this an even a remote possibility. thanks for all the input it is very much appreciated

I got a part time telecommuting job and they said they’d prefer to use Pay-pal to pay me. I’m all for avoiding envelopes and checks to save trees, but I’m not all for paying fees to receive money. Pay-pal’s chart of fees made it seem like if I got a personal account they’d charge me to move money from my Pay-pal account to my checking. Is this true? And people said they’re Terms of Service allow them to take money directly from my checking and savings accounts??? This would be bad news bears…

Any pearls of wisdom out there?

And please don’t say that not all jobs can be telecommuted .. we all know that! But more jobs can be than are today.

It looks to me that supporting telecommuting is a Real way of supporting stay at home moms and dads.

I mean for real it would be more free choice for both men and women. And career and family would not be so much an either/or thing.

I think this is much better than the corporate hell rat race that so many people have to live in and be stressed out by.

And much better than some lame trying to turn back the clock to the bad old days and pretend that economic reality and woman’s choices are not real and important.

Hey this is the 21st century and we have the Net.

And Yes I do know that most corporations and governments are not high on doing this even if they say they are. That is something we can try to change. Workers who are more happy are better workers. It I was in business I would want that.

So how can we help make this happen more?
thanx Rio :) Actually I think the biggest issue is attitude..

I am putting together a list of legitimate online and work at home jobs & businesses opportunites. Here are a few companies that will be on my list

Call Center Agents
http://www.liveops.com
http://www.apply.westathome.com/
http://www.convergysworkathome.com/

Online Expert
http://beaguide.about.com

National Telecommuting Institute, Inc. (Home based jobs for Americans with disabilities)

I am still in the beginning stages trying to brainstorm. How much would people want to pay for my list? How can I prove that what I am offering is not a scam?…Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
The links listed are not affiliate links. These companies are not paying me to list these links…These are real companies
I added to links to prove that these are not scams. Before giving an answer I challenge everyone to search the background of these companies
