I am interested in starting to freelance in areas such as data entry, copywriting/editing or other types of things related to general business. I know that in some areas of freelancing, it is a good idea to have a portfolio available to show your abilities and creativities, but is it necessary for the types of fields I am looking to try to get into?
I have never created a portfolio and am not sure what I would need to include. Is it ok to include things like Business Letters to ficticious companies to show the type of impact you can create from your work?
What about Data Entry spreadsheets? I have been working on an online project for a website that will eventually create an interactive and searchable database. I have been in contact with the project manager and was told that it is ok to use some of my completed work as an example, is this ok to use? If so, is it permissable or adviseable to use it as an .xlr file or would it be better to do it as a .txt file?
Any help or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am already into marketing and distribution business and have a well established marketing firm.
Now, I would like to provide some livelihood to the ppl in my surrounding by employing them with data entry and a sort of freelancing work. Neither money nor manpower is a problem.
I have been through many online sites but could not differentiate the crap from the genuine work. If you are willing to partner with me by providing projects, kindly get back to me @ mikaarun@yahoo.com.

I am a well-educated mom of a 9 month old and plan to attend graduate school next fall and get my doctorate. In the mean time, I’m a stay at home mom and need some extra income.
I’ve looked at the freelance writing, data entry, cash-for-survey jobs online, and they ALL seem like scams!
Are there any real at-home jobs one can do online to earn some extra income? I’m not looking for a career or to make millions, just some help with monthly bills without having to hand my kid over to daycare.
Thanks

Data entry jobs are a great source to earn good supplementary income for your pocket. It is not only a source of good income but also a fun and enjoyment. Data entry jobs mostly requires sorting and classifying of data which is usually done by copying data from one file and pasting it in an organized manner on another file. This is done for some productive purpose or to make the data more useable and yielding. There are thousands of companies in the world who require millions of people as data entry clerks. The interesting point is that the economic trend is seeing a very fast and positive attitude of data entry jobs in the market. Every novice as well as experienced is earning thousands of dollars through such home based jobs in which you only need a desktop or laptop computer, an internet connection and a few basic word processing tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Another great advantage of such home based jobs is to that you have freedom of time unless you are within deadlines. You are not required to strictly follow the nine to five timings of any professional organization. You can work with the comfort of your home using your laptop computer. You just need to have hands on with basic tools of data entry tasks. The more proficient you are in such tools, the more you can make out of a given period of time. For example, many data entry tasks require you to work with Microsoft Excel program. In this program you have to repetitively do same type of job. Manually doing this thing can take several hours. But if you are aware of Microsoft Excel macros, there are a lot of chances that you can turn the hour’s work into few minutes. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to learn new and advanced techniques of minimizing your work and maximizing the output.
One thing many novices don’t care about while starting with data entry jobs is the reliability and assurance of the payment. They just see a good paying advertisement on some site and grab for it. They don’t understand that there are hundreds of blacklisted companies which are just there to steal your money. These novices also spend their hardly earned money as the fake fees of such blacklisted data entry companies. Therefore, you are always suggested to first learn about the business standings and reputation of the employer you are going to work with. In case you see any bad and negative reviews of the employer, you should move to the next one. There’s no doubt that there are thousands of employers as well as employees from every corner of the world and it is impossible that you don’t get any job – as long you are determined and resourceful. Keeps an eye on the best paying employers. Try to build a good reputation as well as organized portfolio. Try to have a record of each and every work that you have done. This will add to your credibility and will help you in winning later projects.

AA Degree in Psychology/12 years Adm. Assistant/Receptionist/Secretary/Corporate Treasurer of 3 Corps./Data Entry. I’m persistantly going to pursue a telecommute position in Adm/Clerical. In spite of being scammed already, by mydatateam.com, I still believe that it’s possible. I’ve worked in family operated corporations, two of which i chartered myself. My father was impossible to please and insisted that I do all those job titles in 24hrs weekly. I was a woman to be kept in her place. I’m the only person in the family to earn a degree and I intend to do something with it. He wouldn’t allow me more hours to do the job efficiently. On the day he gave me a raise to hr, I quit. I feel that I wasted 12 years of loyality . I was pretty well maxed out there. Basically, since he let me down, I’ve become a little discouraged. But I plan to rise to the occasion, as usual. If only someone would just point me in the right direction. I know there are still angels, be mine.

Increasing numbers of home based business not only shows the demand of data entry jobs, but also reflect the healthy and fruitful outcomes of the job. According to a survey conducted in the year 2004, approximately twenty million residents of United States were somehow associated with data entry jobs or home based jobs. Data entry jobs include a wide variety of jobs. From classifying telephone numbers, names and addresses to sorting the new list of employers and employees, everything falls in the category of data entry jobs. Growing online business requires furthermore data entry professionals and clerks at all levels from every corner of the world. Becoming a part of this potential and money making industry is not a bad idea.
Companies require data entry clerks and professional for a wide variety of jobs. Companies have bulk amount of data regarding thousands of different things. Also, companies have a lot of hand-written data in the form of correspondences and letters. These all things are needed to be computerized and well-managed so that they can be utilized at the time of requirement. This all is conducted by a data entry professional. Businesses do not prefer large business to carry data entry jobs as it cost them a good sum of money. Instead, they prefer home based and self-employed people who can do the same task in relatively lesser amount of money.
If you truly want to make a good sum of money as your supplementary monthly income, you will need to have a desktop machine. A laptop is nothing less than an additional benefit which will add to the comfort and flexibility to your job activities. You can start your data entry career as an entry level by joining various freelance networks. The greatest thing about freelance networks is that it is a hub of employers and employees from every corner of the world. So, once you grow your home based business, you can pick up new employees from the same platform, just as you were chosen by someone when you started your career.
The greatest feature of data entry jobs is that they do not require the clerk or professional to have any prior experience in the field. All you need to learn is Microsoft Excel or Microsoft word. Learning other similar software packages will help you and will add into your skills. This will allow you to cater a greater number of employers. Consequently, the pay rates and the remuneration will be good and lucrative. The more you work on such freelance networks, the more money you can make. Therefore, it is always recommended to a data entry professional to learn new data entry software packages in their free time.
Though data entry jobs include a wide variety of jobs, but the most typical data entry jobs require the professional to enter, sort, classify telephone numbers, postal addresses and full names. In today’s electronic world of search engine optimization, back links are also becoming very common which are sorted and counted by data entry professionals. It is always recommended to learn about the employers currently doing business in the market. You should be able to identify a fake and fraudulent employer. At last, you need to be skilled, determined and proficient in your job in order to make more money.

All I can find on the internet are these stupid MLM’s or companies where I have to "invest" to start working (data entry, typing, medical transcription, envelope stuffing, internet surveys, etc.) I am an excellent typist, have over 10 years of Admin/HR/Management experience but want to stay at home with my infant son while I’m working. I’ve been told that there are legitimate corporations that look for people to work from home, but I haven’t found any. Can you help?!

I have surfed basically every WAH forum there is out there, free ones and paid ones etc. I have found a few jobs as IC’s but not an employee. I realize that certain jobs are more abundant, like web design and etc, but I still have a impressive resume that should easily get a job being a virtual assistant, doing data entry, speardsheets, customer service, software tech support, live chat and moderators and human resources. My problem is the few jobs that come up are usually already filled b/c others check the forums religiously to apply, I do the same, but I have trouble either way. Anyways, I love for the top answerer on this topic also to give me his/her input. I would love a work at home job that allows a satellite connection, or is non-speaking and not adult chat, pays hourly and preferably not commision, and where I would be an employee and not an IC. Please do not respond with MLM’s surveys, ameriplan, home based businesses, scams, spams or the liking. Thanks Guys for serious responses.

I just lost my job and its almost time for rent and I cannot find anything out there! I need something to make money asap. I know that I can use my computer to make money but Im not really sure how. I have done a lot of research looking up different jobs online but all the telecommuting jobs take some time for you to get a call back. I would be very interested in direct sales but then again there is always that week waiting period for you materials, then a week in training, ect… What about those data entry sites? Any of those work? Im really not into paying any money up front, Ive tried that and never got any more replies. Ive also tried surveys but I dont have the money to invest in all of those free trials. Does anyone have any good ideas for online work such as data entry, surveys that dont ask for money but maybe just pay you a direct check, what about that project payday site… is that real? Im looking for maybe at least 100 a week realistically starting off, so really serious
Serious answers only please i really need some good advice and no im not looking to get rich quick
And I have a baby so I really need the income and quick or im not going to have anywhere to live.

Has anyone had an experience with a company that will provide legitimate work from home (administrative type work – data entry, transcription, copy type, etc.)? Alternatively, does anyone know of employment agencies that offer this type of work?
I am seeking this kind of work to supplement income at this point, but if there were the possibility of it turning into full-time, that would be great too.
After months of research all I have to show from my search is countless scams. I would appreciate any information you could offer. Thanks so much.
