There are a large number of telecommuting positions here in USA. I was thinking of getting a job telecommuting, something very basic, then outsource the tasks of the job to someone, most likely in India. I currently have a job and simply could do this in addition. I could take 30 mins a day in relaying tasks to my person in India and sending the work back to the employer.
If I get fired, no big deal, the outsource would be a hourly pay and I still have my real job that I work hard at.
Would this work? what issues might i get into?
I would be using websites such as Elance, hireanindian, etc. All of these people are usually very good at English and I have outsourced project with these sites in the past with ease. no need to go to india

I’m studying computer networking, I made my decision after doing extensive research on the profession and reading US Dept. of Labor projections on job growth and availability up till 2014. Aparently this is one of the fastest growing fields in the country, it is also tagged as "in demand" occupation. But I keep running into people that say the cosc jobs are being outsourced to India and other countries. How is that possible? I understand that part of the job is telecommuting, depending on the situation, but how is it possible to maintain hardware from another country? Everyone is talking about cosc going down under, and how it’s horrible because you have to keep getting certifications and keep up your education. I’m just wondering what everyone here thinks about it, or if they have dealt with becoming obsolete in the field. What is really going on???

Has any one lost his/her IT and call centre job due to offshore outsourcing to India?
Did anyone lost his/her IT or call centre job to India due to offshore outsourcing ?
If yes, then what you did after loosing the job ?
I have not, but I work in IT and can tell you..
Offshore outsourcing to India is becoming less and less common. There has been so much outsourcing to India, that the job market for IT has skyrocketed there.
It is much more common now to outsource to Mexico. Cheaper wages, NAFTA, and less accents are all turning the tides to Mexican outsourcing.

Just saw this on the news: What do you think?
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Large swathes of Asia, the Middle East and north Africa had their high-technology services crippled Thursday following a widespread Internet failure which brought many businesses to a standstill and left others struggling to cope.
India’s Internet bandwidth has been sliced in half, The Associated Press reported, leaving its lucrative outsourcing industry trying to reroute traffic to satellites and other cables through Asia.
Reports say that Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain are also experiencing severe problems.
I wasn’t suggesting anything. I just thought it would be interesting to hear what other people on YA had to say about it. I thought it would be an interesting topic, depending on how unusual the answers got.
Yes. i could not connect to internet in the morning. Now it is working perfectly.

Would more international outsourcing help reduce the 16.6% of GDP the U.S. spends on health care?
People travel to India for surgeries now, and the cost is much cheaper there, even including the airfare. The care is also very good.
This probably is not covered by private insurance and would not be under any of the proposals even if people were forced to buy health insurance. Mandatory health insurance would probably result in people having much more expensive surgeries here, because they had already paid the premiums.
If the federal government looked at international options for Medicare, some of those costs could be brought down. There must be foreign vendors for wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment who would sell at competitive prices and not require monthly contracts and provide reasonably priced maintenance.
Also, why not negotiate with Mexico to set up long care facilities where the cost of labor is cheaper? A percentage of people in our nursing homes do not get any visitors anyway, and this option would allow their money to last longer.
Yes, but then you’re looking at globalization and a one world government and all that entails…can you see the conservatives in the US sitting down for this one?
You make valid points about DME and comparitive prices. IT would probably help make Big Pharma bring their astronomical prices down a bit. You might actually be on to something with long term facilities out of the country, since it is apparent they are not a priority in this country at this time.
I, however, look forward to the day when US attorneys and politicians are outsourced to India. Maybe that’ll be the day when we have “equality for all”

Significant questions about OutSourcing?
A few years ago, I had professional exposure to outsourcing, when my small company outsourced our website to an offshore company.
I just realized that few people are asking these questions. So I ask those of you with an understanding of international trade laws.
1) Are US contracts, Intellectual Property, and NDAs legally binding in India, China, Russia and former Soviet republics?
2) Are they PRACTICALLY binding.
Even if the laws are clear, is there any realistic enforcement of these contracts?
Thank you.
1. yes us patents and contract are binding internationally, we are under the international corporate treaty
2. no not always, specially in 3rd world country were in piracy and copy violation is abundant

Nike Question?
What ethical issues faced by MNCs in their treatment of foreign workers could allegations of misconduct in their operations?
It’s about Nike Corporation
I answered this question like this: Ethical issues faced by MNCs could bring allegation of misconduct in their operations by outsourcing the manufacturing of their goods to a third world country. For example: Nike has received criticism regarding the ethics of its operations in Vietnam. Criticism for: Child Labor, forced labor, unfair labor practices, unwittingly supporting the economy of a rouge state and many others.
I am not aware of any “forced labor” but that is not to say it doesn’t exist (don’t prisons in the US have prisoners working – be it road maintenance, or whatever?). I wasn’t aware that supporting the economy of a red (communist?) state as in French “rouge” for red, or did you mean rogue? As far as I know, and from what I can see, the US is currently much more a rogue state than Vietnam. VN seems to be quite peaceful and friendly with its neighbors – barring the occasional spat with China on borders.

Whats Worse: illegals taking jobs at US companies OR US companies sending jobs to foreign countries?
Which one upsets you more and which one do you think is worse for America?
I think US companies closing down US offices to employ others doing the same service overseas is a bigger problem personally, it weakens our US economy and strengthens our competitors but companies don’t care because they make more money in the end. Think of all the companies outsourcing to India RIGHT NOW……those were AMERICAN jobs, but do we hold them accountable for their actions and the effect on our economy….no we don’t. SO next time you get upset thinking about jobs being TAKEN be aware of the greatest perpatrators of this…..our American Corporations.
DR. Z….you have no faith in plastic surgery! Its amazing what they can do now
Equally wrong.

Will globalization lead to a revolution in the U.S.?
Globalization has already started the outsourcing of jobs to third world countries. Their standard of living is going up. Each time we outsource a job, someone in America is losing theirs. Right now, most of these jobs are unskilled labor. But, when you take into account that many of these third world countries are sending kids to school for free and gaining skills such as engineering, business management, and teaching degrees, these jobs will also become more scarce in the U.S. Because it will still be cheaper to hire someone from those other countries, such as India or China. Nobody is really complaining about losing these unskilled jobs. However what happens when the middle class as a whole has to compete against other countries? Not to mention as their standard of living continually decreases? You never want to upset the educated, working middle class.
The solution is obvious then, after getting national health care made in to a law, we will need to get free higher education.

How can India be the birthplace of so many incredible religions yet also have the highest murder rate?
Is it because of the prejudice that often comes with religion? Or is it because of some other breakdown in this society? How can we realistically associate India as being a place of peace when there is so much bloodshed? Why do we not hear of the problems that are going on as well as in South Africa?
How can India have the highest murder rate as well as the largest number of police?
Why do American Corporations support the economy of a country with problems such as these through outsourcing?
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur-crime-murders
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_pol-crime-police
At what point in time did murder in the name of religion ever cease? Just because someone is religious doesn’t mean they don’t believe in killing in the name of their religion…actually it is just the opposite….all major religions have inflicted their belief system on innocents.
American corporations are after their bottom line….their shareholders demand a return on their dollar invested and they don’t care who or what is killed, murdered or destroyed to get more in their yearly dividend check.

Indian Outsourcing Industry – Overcoming The Challenges!
India has long been a favorite outsourcing destination for businesses across the world because of its high quality of services and cost competitive prices. However, with the unfavorable economic climate and recent incidents of account frauds and security threats, there have been hiccups in the otherwise seamless industry. And because of these very incidents the Indian outsourcing industry has been shaken.
And at this day, it is facing a good amount of challenges as well. Let us look at some of the potential challenges faced by the industry and how it is overcoming the same.
Cheaper Services offered by countries like China and Russia
With the boom in the outsourcing industry, many new service providers have mushroomed in countries like China and Russia that claim offer cheaper services. However, these vendors are relatively new in the market and thus lack the experience and expertise that is needed to process outsourcing tasks efficiently.
Outsourcing only for cost reduction is the biggest mistake businesses can ever make. Rather, outsourcing decisions should be made based on a combination of factors like cost, expertise, industry experience, quality of services, responsiveness and flexibility of the service provider. Apart from reducing the cost investments, the outsourcing deal should also seek to enhance the quality of the business processes that are outsourced. Moreover, these countries have issues like language problems, cultural differences, geopolitical instability, and the risk of stolen intellectual property.
Security Risks perceived by Clients
The recent incident of accounting fraud at Satyam has questioned the credibility of outsourcing firms and their proceedings. Satyam was a premier brand name in the IT outsourcing industry and fraudulent dealings had taken everyone by surprise. On top of it, there have also been couple of cases of credit card frauds in the past. All this news has managed to scare off outsourcing clients and made them extra cautious about investing money.
However, outsourcing service providers have adopted strict privacy policies and security measures that ensure total protection of data. The office premises have secure environments and employees are briefed about the security policies as well. This makes sure that client data is not misused.
Geographical and Time line Differences
Since India falls in a different time zone, many western countries often find it difficult to coordinate. For example, their business day begins when the day ends in India. Thus there is very less time that is actively common and all the live business communication. However, this might as well work in favor of business proceedings. Because India has an advantage of earlier time, the business day starts earlier here than it does in western countries. So, any work that is outsourced on a day can be completed and reverted back before the start of the day there.
Intellectual Property Issues
One of the major threats to outsourcing to offshore continents is intellectual property thefts. It is important that companies adopt strict protection measures to ensure against the same. Outsourcing vendors often disable the USB drives on the computer systems in order to prevent employees from taking data outside the office premises etc.
